Highlights and Accomplishments
As of 2009, YouthBuild has graduated approximately 100 students that go on to further their education in college or enter the workforce. Since 2001 the YouthBuild Mahoning County program has completed several major renovations to area homes, constructed 4 new homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley, and completed dozens of independent projects such as minor repairs to churches, painting homes, building ramps, repairing park benches and more. In 2009 YouthBuild was awarded Program of the Year by the NARSAAH organization. Also in 2009 the Mahoning Valley Task Force on Crime and Violence Prevention recognized YouthBuild for its effort in improving the quality of life in Youngstown and Mahoning County.
In 2009 YouthBuild placed 63% of its students in either post-secondary education, and/or employment, 54% attained either a GED and/or the PACT construction credential, and 54% of students increased in their literacy and numeracy scores. Additionally students were able to attain certifications in the Sherwin-Williams Professional Paint Training and Lead Abatement Training with the opportunity to take the state licensure test. Computer, CPR & First Aid training is also available.
YouthBuild Mahoning County is known for its caring and compassionate staff and for the family atmosphere that enables students to thrive and excel. Recently YouthBuild Mahoning County was awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor in the amount of 675,000.
